19 Australian, 2 New Zealand and 5 Turkish Surfboats rowed on the Gallipoli peninsular in a spectacular show of emotional respect to the diggers and Turkish soldiers of the Gallipoli campaign. Each boat had at least two crews of rowers so 300 rowers were part of this amazing spectacle. The event, which wasn't a race, was conducted in the extremes of weather ranging from freezing and wet to beautiful and sunny.  Read the full article with video/pics HERE

Thank you to the 520 rowers who completed this survey. That number identifies how important you all feel about improving our sport. Attached you will find the complete unedited survey including comments from 63% of you that took the time to give us all an insight into your thoughts on what is good and not so good.  We have done our best to break the key issues out of the actual survey and the many comments into a summary to make it easier to digest all that has been said and that summary is also included.

We will now start working back to the various levels in SLS with this supporting information to build a case for more consultation and to bring change into some areas that desperately need them.

You can see the results & summary of the Survey in this forum post HERE

Crews had a great weekend of racing at Surfers last weekend. The start of the National Short Course was very well received with fast and furious racing. Crowds loved it because they could watch the entire race and understand who was winning. Crews loved it because they had quick turn around times and it was great for lifting the surf skills. No sooner through the break, into a turn and chasing the runs to home. Distance was set at about 200M. This won't replace the chamionship course at major events but it is a great event for the first half of the season to get pleanty of races and importantly your off the beach early but still pretty well worked over.

The ASRL Committee would like to acknowledge and thank the SLSA Board and Staff who have negotiated with us on the introduction of Helmets into our sport. We have been treated with respect and our opinion valued along this long and at times rough road but the final result has been reached so now everybody can get on with enjoying the new season.

The attachments below (PDF reader required) are the final pieces to the puzzle in understanding the new Helmet Policy and will quell any opportunity for this policy to be misinterpreted at any level. Sweeps are urged to understand our important role to the safety of our crews. By all means we urge all crews to go out into and train in surf to lift the skill level but to also be mindful of the requirements of the new policy.
